Real Estate In Canada Sets Record

Posted by torontocondo on January 16, 2008

Toronto:

Resale Canadian homes have set a record for both sales and prices in 2007 according to the Canadian Real Estate Association.

The average price reached was $326,055- up 10.8 per cent from 2006, and a record 362,934 homes were sold on the MLS system.

According to the CREA economist, the reasons for this strong demand for the Real Estate market was income and job growth, reasonable financing, and consumer confidence.

December had the largest year to year gain in over three years, with the average resale home selling for $332,836, a rise of 13.1 per cent.

Regina and Saskatoon were the Real Estate leaders with gains of over 45 per cent from 2006.

Quebec City $174.768  17.3

Vancouver holds the title for the most expensive Real Estate in Canada. The average home there increased to $566.192, a gain of 9.0 per cent from December 2006.

Recently I wrote about the Top Ten Most Expensive Canadian Homes and 6 out of 10 were in British Columbia.

Windsor-Essex and St. Catharines experiencing a manufacturing slump reported 1.3 per cent increase for St. Catharines and Windsor a -3.4 per cent decline. This was the only major Canadian Real Estate market to report a decline.

Forecasts for 2008 Canadian Real Estate sales would be lower than 2007 record levels with average prices rising at a slower pace.
